Interviews generally in last week of july.
Majority of the students qualified for the interview qualify for the scholarship. Success ratio is more than 65% or so. I guess, at least in my times, 1500 used to give interview, 1000 used to get scholarship.

Thank you Nandan

Does anyone has any idea about how many students were selected for inrerview?

Is there any state quota?

Dhruv Gupta said...

my friend's father works in SCERT Haryana...
he told me that this year 4550 students gave the 2nd stage out of which 1500 are selected for the interview. 1000 will get the scholarship.....which makes it around 66%.......
Another thing he told me was that out of the total marks, 75% marks are from the 2nd stage and 25% from the interview....
Hope this helps!!!!!

Bhuvesh said...

Thanx Dhruv , i really wanted to know all this... and by the i want to know the states of u guy.I m frm Haryana.

Nandan Sawant said...

@ aashadeep, dhruv, bhuvesh

1. there is no state quota

2. there is reservation based on caste :P

3. dhruv's stats about 1000/1500 selection are correct. I had already posted them

4. Though, I doubt 75-25% ratio thing, There is a confusion whether it's 200+25 or 200+50.

Hello Nandan Bhaiya,

This is Kartik from Delhi, and I've qualified for the NTS interviews.
I had some doubts, which I wanted to clarify. While going through the
website www.easyntse.co.cc on Interview Table A page, you have
mentioned that electric current is not a vector, because on adding,
we cannot do so vectorly. What do you mean by that? Further, 2009 is
the International Year of Astronomy to mark 400 years of the first
telescopes, using which Galileo discovered craters on the moon and
moons of Jupiter. Further, Kepler published his first book in which he
talked of planitary motion. What questions can be asked related to
this? If I study from class VIII and IX NCERT textbooks, will that be
enough for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Science and Maths?
Further, are the interviews conducted individually, or before everyone
else present including other students and parents etc. My father is a
business, but I think the concepts like globalisation, privatisation
etc are far above class VIII and IX level. So, do you think that they
may be asked? I want to become a Computer Engineer by purusing B.Tech.
from IIT. So, how do you think the discussion shall proceed? You
valuable opinions and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Waiting for your response,
-Kartik Sawhney.

Dipanjan said...

Well, at first I want to thank Mr. Nandan Sawant. You have created a simply outstanding website. You should be given a prize from the students...just kidding ...anyway

I have just cleared the NTSE Stage - II [National level]. I checked my results just an hour ago. And I found myself eligible for the interview. I am from West Bengal and from a Bengali-medium [Bengali is my mother-tongue] school. I can speak English but not habituated with it. It doesn't mean that I can't talk in English. But when I have to discuss my studies in English in front of an Interviewer, I think I may have a little problem. I just want you to tell me how I can improve my skills in so little a time. I am yet to receive the letter from NCERT. So I don't know when or where the interview will take place.

I have read all the information in your website.. It is indeed a helpful one. I would ask you to suggest what to read and what not to. There are only 8th standard students this year. And what expression I should have in front of the panelists. I know that you have updated your website but still if you kindly help mail me answering my queries I will be grateful to you forever.................

My id is - ribhu_dipanjan@yahoo.co.in

Name - Dipanjan Pal
Place - Kolkata, West Bengal
Standard - Currently in class IX

@ Vikas Verma:
they expect you to know whatever might be taught till first unit test/ August from 9th standard as well.

@ kavee:
generally they'll prefer to ask you questions from your board. But they might ask questions from CBSE board as well.

@ Harsh, Shubham , Ankur :
thanks a lot :)
hope you share your ntse interview experiences after interview

@ all :
do share your NTSE interview experiences with us after interviews. It'll be helpful for others.

Nandan Sawant said...

@ Tarun, Bhuvesh

Don't worry much about individual weightages etc. Nevertheless, I have already answered this issue on this thread.

Nandan Sawant said...

@ Kartik Sawhney

You are thinking on correct lines.
I can't answer all your queries in detail, due to lack of time, but they are good. Do discuss those with your teachers in school.

1. Interview is not in front of parents. It's in individual cabins subject-wise or all judges together.

2. There are laws of vector addition to add vectors geometrically. Don't worry if you hvn;t learnt them

3. International year of Astro: Very good point. Do read more

4. Globalization and privatisation are much deeper concept for even a graduate. But one must know at least what they mean and how they affect.

All the best for your interview.
Do not forget to share your NTSE interview experience after the interview.

Regards,
Nandan

6 Wt is the relation bt ER, Golgi Complex and Lysosomes
7 Functions of three of them
8 Who founded golgi bodies
9 Name 3 doubled membraned cell organelle
10 Wt do metals and non metals form on heating?
11 Examples of basic and acidic oxides

22 When was "Lal Quila" built
22 Last ruler who ruled from Lal quila
22 Number of stories present in Qutub Minar

They wr then scoring us on our whole personality and i got 39 out of 50. The highest score bagged wz 42 out of 50. i hope these questions will help u guys.
All the best 2 everyone.

Bhuvesh said...

Sum people at SCERT were Saying that the marks weightage is 75% WRITTEN TEST and 25% INTERVIEW.

18 Wt is Level of increase of temp when we go downward in earth's crust( Increase in 1 degree celcius of decrease in 20 m height)

But according to our board syllabus: the decrease of temperature on ascending is equal to the increase in temperature on going underground = 6.5°C per 1000 metres (Lapse rate). So, what's the correct answer?

Dhruv Gupta said...

Hi guys!!!!
My interview went good!
It wasn't very tough....no scary questions about your place like MLAs or number of passes...and the best part was ....no maps in geography!!!!
___________________
I entered the room...four old people sitting together (though only three asked the questions).

The first questions was obviously tell about yourself
Then came 'what do you want to become?' I said software engineer.
Then they asked me my favourite subject. I said physics. Then 'what is your worst subject'? I said chem. And you know what.....they didnt even ask me a single question in phy(my fav subject) and started off with chem!!!!!!!!

CHEMISTRY
Q1.Tell about Yourself
Q2.What do your parents do?
Q3.What is your favourite subject(phy)
Q4.Do u like chem?(I said no)
Q5. Draw the basic structure of the atom.
Q6.What is nucleus made of (protons & neutrons hehe)
Q7.Why do electrons revolve around the nucleus?
Q8.How many electrons present in the first shell? why is it only 2? (This one's was tough...I said because 2 electrons is the maximun energy it can store and it helps in making the material stable...but I think they wanted something more)

GEOGRAPHY AND ECONOMICS
Eco came quite as a shocker to me as I hadn't studied anything in it.
This part went the best...i knew all the questions, though i hadn't studied anything in eco and geo!!!

Q1.What is the difference between growth and developement?
(I just used my brains and said that growth does not mean necessarily that the people are happy and in developement the gov invests money in the right place like building flyovers, which is beneficial for the people. )
Q2.What are the types of rocks? (Earlier I had said I had studied rocks in geo.)
Q3.What are igneous rocks? give egs.

BIOLOGY
Nothing much in bio

Q1.What type of energy is produced in the body? (Chemical)
Q2.What is that chemical? (ATP)
Q3.How are messaged transvered through nerves? What are those electrical signals?

HISTORY

Q1.Which period in history do u like the most? (I said modern india)
Q2. How is the indian history classified into ancient, medievial and modern?
Q3.Chanakya wrote which book?
Q4.Who wrote vedas. Name all the vedas.

Then finally one of the interviewers gave me a biscuit and asked me to leave.
_______________
My interview lasted for around 20-25 minutes.....
Hpe this helps you all!!!

Kartik Sawhney said...

Hello everybody,

I took the NTSE interview today in Delhi. My interview centre was at NCERT, near IIT Delhi (the same centre as Dhruv and Bhuvesh). As I entered, some people were sitting on a single table as a panel. They started off with my school-do you like your school? What don't you like about your school? I said that my school offered excellent technology like smart classes etc., which took the students beyond the textbooks, and there wasn’t anything as such that I hated about my school. Then, they asked me how was I benefited by the technology that the school offered? Then, it was Geography. They asked me what had I read in Geog. I said rocks (Dhruv, you gave me a good idea, thanks!). They asked me about igneus, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Then, they asked me what rocks are associated with fossils. It was sedimentary. Then, they asked me how Himalayas were ormed? I was a bit confused out here. Then, they gave me a hint, `tectonic .....`. It was then that I was able to answer the questions. Basically, you had to talk about the theory of plait tectonics. Overall, Geography went well. Then, was biology. Asked me to classify dinosaur, as in give the kingdom, species, phylum, genus and bla bla bla. I told them who dinosaur was, but failed to classify it. Then, they asked me about reason for classifying animals. Why do we classify animals? Then, how do you classify yourself? (Thankfully, I knew it!, you had to give all kingdom, phylum, order, class, family, genus and species!) Then characteristics of mammals (minimum 4).

Then, it was Physics Prof. I'd said that Physics was my fav subject. Then, he asked me about the insperation guiding me towards Physics? In other words, I was suppose to name a person due to which I wanted to pursue Physics. I told him that there wasn't any insperation as such, just that Physics involved challenging problems and scientific aproach, and I loved to deal with them. Then, he asked me about Albert Einstein and his contribution-it was theory of general relativity and then, asked me about Einstein's formula, e=mc². Asked me to explain the equation ,as in what did e, m and c stand for. Then, asked me about Steven Hawking. Luckily, I had made a project on him during class VIII. Next was the Chemistry teacher. Asked me to explain the structure of atom. If neutrons do not have any charge on them, then how are they bound with the nucleus? Then, finally was History teacher. Asked me about any four Non-Indian people who played a notable role in the National movement. I knew this. They were A.O.Hume, Madam H.P.Plavatskey, M.S.Olkut and Anney Besant. Then, asked me about home rule league and its objectives. Finally, one of the interviewers gave me a biscuit and sent me off.

@Dhruv, the judges are being changed everyday. So, the judges that you had were not the same as mine today. So, Bhuvesh, you may relax!!! BTW Dhruv, are you from DPS RKP? If yes, then I’m too from the same school. Hope this helps you guys. Also, I advise you to be conversant with the various physical features of India, for which go through class IX NCERT chapter 2. Me and several of my friends have been asked questions on this topic. Also read chapter II of class VIII NCERT textbook. One of my friends was asked a question on the chapter. Also, if any of you wants to become a doctor, then read about some specializations in this field. One of my friend was asked a question related to this. And, best of luck for your interviews!!!

@ Dhruv
Thanx , bt as said by Kartik the interviewers wld change probably but u never know. I may get the same interviewers as of urs..

@Kartik
Your intrview sounds like a little tough frm Dhruv's. Hope u had performed well. I surely not want such questions like u faced in physics and history, BTW my history is not gud. I wld love 2 face questions of Ancient and Medievial history bt not Modern.

what'll b the ans?

Dhruv Gupta said...

@Bhuvesh
neutrons dont have any charge on them....still they attract because of the strong gravitational force between them...though they are very small, they are so close to each other, that gravitational force becomes high (as gravitational force is inversly proportional to square of distance)...so they stick to each other....same is the case with protons...ideally they should repel, but they are so close that gravitational force keeps them together.....
hope you understood it!

Thanx a lot, i wz really confused abt this. U cleared my doubt. Do tell me sm more facts of chemistry and history whcih can be asked..

@everyone who has given the interview..
Did u have any general current affairs questions?
..and I got to know that some of them had panels for judges and some got separate tables as per the subject!!

@Dhruv..
I dont think that there exists any gravitational force between the nucleons
They possess the strong nuclear force which have operation range only upto ten raise to minus fifteen metres

It is very interesting to note that in interview the question on nuclear stability has been asked which is "If nutrons are having no charge , then how are they bound in in a very small periphery of the nucleus".

The reason for such stability is that the the nutrons are continually converted to protons and protons are to neutrons by exchange of another sub-nucleon called Pie-Meson.This pie-meson may have a (+)ve charge, (-)ve charge or no charge at all. This continuous change results into an elctrostatic force of attraction between changed protons and neutrons. Hence, the neutrons do not cause for disintegration of nucleus in spite of being bounded in a very small place.Exchange of (+) pie-meson or (-)ve pie-meson accounts for binding energy between the nucleons and the transfer of a charge converting a proton into neutron and vice versa.

Hiiiiiii Guys!!!!
I had my interview today it went good. There were no questions from physics, maths and chem.
First of all they asked my name, my hometown and state. They asked about my school and my father's professsion. Then they asked about my aim in life.It is Computer Engineering. Then asked me the reason for this. Then they asked asked about the merits and demerits about computers having all the confidential data of the country. They asked my that if i wld opt for Software Engineering or Hardware Engineering. Again they asked reason fr the answer. Then they asked me to name a large scale project introduced in the country which wld require more and more Software engineers.
They asked me about Infosisand its owner.
One of the interviewer asked to explain the change of duration of day and night with respect to seasons along with proper diagrams.
Then they asked does why does the sun rises from different locations everyday.Explain with diagrams.
I wz wearing a Rakhi so they asked me about it. Whether it wz Biodegradable or Non Biodegradable.
Then they asked wt wld u suggest ur sister for Rakhi next year? Then they said that if all the products made from plants r removed then wt wld be left in this room.
History wz tough. They asked my favorite part from Modern History. I said Nationalist Movement.
Then they showed me around ten pictures of different revolutionaries. I had to identify all of them and tell thier policies which they used against the britishers.I Could identify around 6-7. Some of those people were Birsa Munda, Lala Lajpat rai, Bal gagandhar tilat, Bhagat Singh, Aurobindo Gosh.
Then they asked about the moderates and the extremists.
The other geo teacher asked me to explain why water is known as renewable and although water is renewable still their is shortage of water. Explain..

Overall it went good. I could not explain the reason for the change in the position of the rising of the sun and i could not identify 3-4 revolutionaries.
