Hi Nandan bhaiya,

This is Kartik. I wanted to post my NTSE interview experiences on the
blog, but there's some difficulty. I am unable to post a comment on
easyntse.blogspot.com. Hence, request you to post my experience asap
so that it can help others.

The moment I entered the room, some people were sitting and I wished
them. They started off with my school-do you like your school? What
don't you like about your school? I said that my school offered
excellent technology like smart classes etc. Then, they asked me how
was I benifited? Then, it was Geography. They asked me what had I read
in Geog. I said rocks (Dhruv, you gave me a good idea, thanks!). They
asked me about igneus, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Then, they
asked me what rocks are associated with fossils. It was sedimenetary.
Then, they asked me how Himalayas were ormed? I was a bit confused out
here. Then, they gave me a hint, `tectonic .....`. Then, I was able to
answer the question. overall, Geography went well. Then, was biology.
Asked me to classify dinosaur, as in give the kingdom, species,
phylum, genus and bla bla bla. I told them who dinosaur was, but
failed to classify it. Then, they asked me about reason for classify.
Why do we classify animals? Then, how do you classify yourself?
(Thankfully, I knew it!) Then characteristics of mammals (minimum 4).
Then, it was Physics Prof. I'd said that Physics was my fav subject.
Then, he asked me about the insperation guiding me towards Physics? I
told him that there wasn't any insperation as such, just that Physics
involved challenging problems, and I loved to deal with them. I think,
he was quite impressed. Then, he asked me about Albert Einstein and
his contribution-it was theory of general relativity and then, asked
me about Einstein's formula, e=mc^2. Asked me to explain the equation,
as in what did e, m and c stand for. Then, asked me about Steven
Hawkins (sorry, I'm not sure of spellings!). Luckily, I had made a
project on him during class VIII. Then, finally was History teacher.
Asked me about any four Non-Indian people who played a notable role in
the National movement. I knew this. They were A.O.Hume, Madam
H.P.Plavatskey, M.S.Olkut and Anney Besant. Then, asked me about home
rule league and its objectives. Finally, they game a biscuit and sent
me off. My interview centre was at NCERT head office at New Delhi and
was held today, i.e. August3. Hope these questions will help you.

message: Such a wonderful site for all those NTSE aspirants. Your easy ntse site is a real boon to the hundreds of students facing the interview for the first time during their schooling. I have gone through every single page and am fascinated by the information collected as well as the reviews. Since 2004 our school students are continuously being selected for NTSE & KVPY scholarships. I kept gathering information about the interview questions every time a team of students attended the interview. I tried to pass on the information to the next batches to guide them. Being a teacher interested in this kind of work, I appreciate your efforts in developing and updating such information in the form of a website. Thank you very much.

Hi guys!!!!
My interview went good!
It wasn't very tough....no scary questions about your place like MLAs or number of passes...and the best part was ....no maps in geography!!!!
___________________
I entered the room...four old people sitting together (though only three asked the questions).

The first questions was obviously tell about yourself
Then came 'what do you want to become?' I said software engineer.
Then they asked me my favourite subject. I said physics. Then 'what is your worst subject'? I said chem. And you know what.....they didnt even ask me a single question in phy(my fav subject) and started off with chem!!!!!!!!

CHEMISTRY
Q1.Tell about Yourself
Q2.What do your parents do?
Q3.What is your favourite subject(phy)
Q4.Do u like chem?(I said no)
Q5. Draw the basic structure of the atom.
Q6.What is nucleus made of (protons & neutrons hehe)
Q7.Why do electrons revolve around the nucleus?
Q8.How many electrons present in the first shell? why is it only 2? (This one's was tough...I said because 2 electrons is the maximun energy it can store and it helps in making the material stable...but I think they wanted something more)

GEOGRAPHY AND ECONOMICS
Eco came quite as a shocker to me as I hadn't studied anything in it.
This part went the best...i knew all the questions, though i hadn't studied anything in eco and geo!!!

Q1.What is the difference between growth and developement?
(I just used my brains and said that growth does not mean necessarily that the people are happy and in developement the gov invests money in the right place like building flyovers, which is beneficial for the people. )
Q2.What are the types of rocks? (Earlier I had said I had studied rocks in geo.)
Q3.What are igneous rocks? give egs.

BIOLOGY
Nothing much in bio

Q1.What type of energy is produced in the body? (Chemical)
Q2.What is that chemical? (ATP)
Q3.How are messaged transvered through nerves? What are those electrical signals?

HISTORY

Q1.Which period in history do u like the most? (I said modern india)
Q2. How is the indian history classified into ancient, medievial and modern?
Q3.Chanakya wrote which book?
Q4.Who wrote vedas. Name all the vedas.

Then finally one of the interviewers gave me a biscuit and asked me to leave.
_______________
My interview lasted for around 20-25 minutes.....
Hpe this helps you all!!!

Dear Nandan Bhaiya,
Just gave interview...Didn't go well...I don't think I will qualify...Well,this is what happened in the interview....
I entered and had to take a long turn to the place where I was seated...They first asked my name and my school..As my school is named after a local freedom fighter, they asked me about it..my advice to all is that KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE PLACE U COME FROM......Half of my interview was based on that only...Then they asked about about the main rivers of my state(orissa),famous monuments,Kalinga war,ASked me how many people died in the war...asked about the population of bhubaneswar(my native place),Then they asked what causes change in seasons, what would have happened if the axis of earth was straight(i.e. perpendicular to the orbital plane),Asked me about the characteristics of desert plants....
In maths, they asked me to find the area of a square inside a circle, some probability questions, and which was greater in between two fractions.....
Then in biology, asked me about gram +ve and gram -ve bacteria.....I didnot have much idea about them...They told that it is class8 book..I told them no it is not there...Then they argued and said it was there...I think i will not get because of this...they kept asking me about them for 10 minutes...But i didnot have any idea about them...Actually it is there in old 8 class ncert book...But we studied the new one..So my advice is that go through the old book too...

No chemistry or physics was asked(which are my fav subjects..So DONOT assume that they will always ask u about ur fav subjects)And yes, some questions were asked about my ambition..why i wanted to become that..

and Nandan bhaiya, thanks for making asuch a wonderful site..If I can help in any way to improve it, please tell me...My e-mail is swetapadma1@hotmail.com...

Hi guys,
I had my interview yesterday (9th) in Kolkata. But sorry, I couldn't post it... I had my school test today.

Firstly, a huge THANKs to Nandan Bhaiya for helping and giving us confidence to face the judges.

I was asked to carry only a pen and nothing else... so I think carrying a folder is not so important.
When I entered the room, there were three men and two women sitting in the room.
The judges were very nice, gentle and really co-operative. (And believe me they seemed to know everything!!!) I did not feel at all nervous in front of them.
They asked me to sit. And first one of them asked my name, school and preferred language (Beng/Eng and I said Eng). He also asked me what my fav subject was. I said Phy. Sc. Then he passed on to the sir who was expert in Phy Sc and math.

Physics:
1. State Newton's 2nd law.
2. what is gravitational force?
3. What's the diff. in acceleration between the heavy and light body?
4. What happens if u drop two substances of diff mass to the ground at a time?
5. Why does it take same time?
6. What's the condition for the experiment?
7. Name a foreign nobel laureate scientist of Physics.
8. What did S. Chandrasekhar get the nobel, year.
9. C. V. Raman's year.
10. What quantity is momentum and force? (scalar or vector)
11. Name some scalar quantities.

Chemistry:
1. What is source of energy in sun?
2. Fusion and fission: examples
3. End products of fission of Uranium (he wanted what else than energy & two elements).

Maths:
1. If x+1/x=2 find x^5+1/x^5
2. Why is it always 2? (Coz x=1)

Then he passed on to the next teacher who was expert in Geography.

Geography:
1. What are effects of rotation and revolution?
2. When do equinoxes occur?
3. What is Aphelion and Perihelion?
4. Why do seasons seem to be lingering during aphelion?

And then he asked something about Chandannagar (the town where my school is located). About the French, difference in culture and architectural pattern with the British, etc.
Then,
5. What are the climates for paddy and Wheat cultivations?
6. What are the temperature ranges? Guess it.

Then he passed on to the Biology Madam.

Biology:
1. What is respiration?
2. What is glycolysis?
3. Why is Plastid called the kitchen of the cell?
4. Diff. between Protoplasm and Cytoplasm.
5. What is nucleus and its importance.
6. Diff. between aerobic and anaerobic respirations.

And last was the History madam.
She began asking what type of preparations I have taken and so on.

History:
1. Do u like History?
2. Which part? (I said modern)
3. What were the movements led by Gandhiji?
4. Year of the movememts.
5. What do u know about Jalianwallabagh?
6. Effects of the massacre.
7. Who were moderates and extremist? Example.
8. Tell about Netaji.

Civics:
The history Madam asked from Civics. They probably knew that it was not a subject of our board. So she asked few questions.

1. Who was the first woman prime minister of the world?
2. Who was the first woman president of the world?

Overall my interview went good. And the teachers were EXTREMELY learned, gentle and co-operative. They even encouraged me to guess! They were not a bit scary and asked reasonable questions. No doubt the NCERT appoints highly eligible teachers for the interview.

And a huge Thanks again for Nandan Bhaiya for such an awesome website!!! :D

@Sharthak:

"IF WE THROW A BALL UP IN ATRAIN

Sorry, but this is a wrong answer.
There can be three cases:-
i)If the train is accelerating, then the ball will go backwards.
ii) If the train is retarding it will go forwards.
iii) If the train is in uniform velocity it'll fall just at the place where we throw it.

These are true provided the train is moving in a straight path. If it takes a curved path, the ball, owing to centrifugal force, will travel tangentially to the direction of the previous movement of the train.

Then they asked does why does the sun rises from different locations everyday.Explain with diagrams.
I wz wearing a Rakhi so they asked me about it. Whether it wz Biodegradable or Non Biodegradable.
Then they asked wt wld u suggest ur sister for Rakhi next year? Then they said that if all the products made from plants r removed then wt wld be left in this room. They also asked some questions related to natural and synthetic fibres. They asked me to name a synthetic fibre whose raw material wz natural.
History wz tough. They asked my favorite part from Modern History. I said Nationalist Movement.
Then they showed me around ten pictures of different revolutionaries. I had to identify all of them and tell thier policies which they used against the britishers.I Could identify around 6-7. Some of those people were Birsa Munda, Lala Lajpat rai, Bal gagandhar tilat, Bhagat Singh, Aurobindo Gosh.

Thank you Nandan Bhaiya for creating such a wonderful website.

@ Nandan Bhaiyya
Is there any state quota for the final selection? I am asking this as I find representation for all the states & UTs in the interview schedule published by the NCERT , after the Stage II exam? Also the interview Board is different for different states as they select experts from the concerned region for the interview?
Can you clarify this aspect?

HI NANADAN BHAIYA ,

THIS IS ASEEM {goldy}
MY INTERVIEW WENT ABOUT AVERAGE . I DON'T REMEMBER THE QUESTIONS AS IT HAS BEEN NEARLY A FORTNIGHT FROM MY INTERVIEW.

I GAVE NEARLY 22 CORRECT ANSWERS FROM THE 30 ASKED QUESTIONS.DO YOU THINK I WILL BE SELECTED FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP.
MEMBERS ALSO PLEASE REPLY.

I REMEMBER ONLY ONE QUESTION---

HOW WILL YOU PROVE THAT LIGHT IS AN ELCTROMAGNETIC WAVE . PLEASE GIVE ME THE ANSWER.

Pronnoy said...

@Goldy,
The interviewers only measure your confidence and the way you try to answer the questions, your approach to tackle the questions etc. It doesn't matter how much you answer. Also it lot depends on the stage II marks. Please hope for the best as you can do nothing now.

Arpit Agrawal said...

@godly
to prove that light is a electromagnetic wave the easiest method is that
light travels through space i.e. where no particles are present and transverse or longitudinal waves need a medium to propogate so light is a electromagnetic wave or an energy wave. becoz we knw energy is not made of particles and hance it needs no medium to tranvel through.

I know this is quite irrelevant, but I saw some of u wrote 'a NTSE Scholar'. I know u were too excited to ponder when u posted. But it should be 'an NTSE...'. Get it? 'N' pronunciation starts with AAAAEEN.
So, get this?

Just telling... Totally irrelevant thing isn't it? :P

SHARTHAK said...

I AM PRETTY SURE THAT IT WILL BE A NTSE SCHOLAR

Dhruv Gupta said...

no sarthak....it will be 'an' ntse scholar...spandan is right....
the letter 'N' is pronounced as 'en' therefore there is a vowel sound.
Another example would be - He's 'an' MLA and not 'a' MLA.
My mother taught me this...hehe

Hello everyone,

I too have qualified all the levels of NTSE, and I am now an NTS scholar. I would like to thank EasyNTSE for all the tips that they gave for interview preparation. I've specially excelled in interview, securing 2nd highest marks in Delhi. Without EasyNTSE by my side, I wouldn't have been able to crack the interview. And also, congrats to all others who have made it to the list of NTS scholars! And guys, KVPY is not only held in class XI. You can also take this exam at colleg8e level while you are pursuing engineering/medicine etc., but yes, that's much tougher then. And also, plz include me in the list of E-mail addresses for KVPY discussions. My E-mail ID is sawhney.kartik@gmail.com
