subject: questions for ntse 2010 interview

message: i have just given the ntse 2010 interview from ranchi. the people who have to go first have to be very knowledgeable and the ones who went first said that their interview was not good. fortunately i was the last one to go. the judges were eased down. they first asked me about the meaning and opposite of my name. now, let me tell you one thing at first that don't think that they would ask questions from the topics which you have read till class 9. i said my favourite subject to be physics. worst mistake. i should also have specified a particular topic in physics which i had prepared. they started to ask questions about electric current which was the only topic i had not prepared. they asked me about in which cases the amount of voltage will be less. i had read electric current 2 years ago. so i remembered that v=ir and gave answer on that basis. then they asked me which law was it? i didn't remember. then, what is the unit of resistance? ohm, i said. then they asked what should that law be called. i said ohm's law. then they asked me about resistivity and radioactivity which i couldn't answer. now, two other questions which i couldn't answer were, 1) how do we know which is solvent and which is solute? mind you the answer is not that easy. find it yourself. 2) how many heavy earth metals are there. by this they meant, lanthanides and actinides. now, i'll tell you the questions which i answered apart from the physics part mentioned earlier.
1) who were the 3 foreign travellers during mauryan empire?
2) draw the structure of atmosphere.
3) how many electrons are there in a shell?
4) why does the last shell have 8 electrons only? i told about quantum numbers.
5) what type of government is there in india?
6) is it parliamentary or presidential?
7) is it unitary or federal?
8) what are nordic and baltic states?(europe)
9) what are solution, solute and solvent?
that was all. wish me best of luck for the results.

The interview was awesome. No general questions asked. Most of them were related to the subjectand there was not much fun in just answering question to answer. AS Nandan said it was more like a Quiz where u had to xplain.
As soon i enetered the hall, they seemed to be very friendly people. The jury consisted of 4 people. THe maths and the chem judges had escaped somewhere...
THey started off by telling me to introduce myself. I started by telling that i was from gitanjali school and they interruptd me, asking about my parents and then about my ambission. As soon as i told that i wanted to become a renewable energy engineer, the physics sir started off with asking me questions about sources of renewable energy. From there he jumped to solar energy then to solar cooker to concave mirror to ray diagrams. THen the biology sir continued by asking me about what they had taught me in standard 8 and 9. He asked me questions about digestive systemand all such things. Mr. History also asked me what was done in school the currently. I told him that we were doing medieval Indian history. He asked me question about the sultanate and y MMd bin tughlaq was called the wise fool. THen we moved on to geogaraphy. SHE asked me about renewable energy, sources and added that i had forgotten to tell about geothermal energy. She even asked me where was the indias onle tidal energy plant located and that was the only question i couldnt answer in the whole interview.( ans - bhavnagar, gujarat), she aked me what was biomass energy and then told me to leave....

Hi,
I’m SHUBHAM GOEL and I appeared for the NTSE interview on 11th August 2010 in New Delhi. The panel members consisted of 7 members. The panel understood that we are children and did not create a tense situation. They were friendly and carried on the interview for 21 minutes and 15 seconds.
When I entered, the first thing they asked for was the file of certificates which I was carrying along. Then they asked the following questions in sequence:-
1.Tell about yourself.
2.What is your aim in life?
3.Tell about your family.
4.Why are you so lean and thin?(I am very slim and thin)
5.There is a ratio between height and weight. Do you know it? Do you follow it?
6.They asked me if I like Physics. I said yes but specified the topic ‘motion’.

8.How is the 1st law a special case of the 2nd law?
9.What is friction?

17.Why were they changing?
18.Who were changing them?
19.Name some people and universities related to this change.

My Sincere Advice:-
Keep on smiling. Stay Calm. Carry your important certificates with you. Don’t argue. Don’t confront. Don’t try to give flukes and fake answers. Say SORRY when you don’t know an answer. STAY CONFIDENT. Prepare every question that can arise from your Bio data. Take care of body language.

I gave my interview today in Delhi NCERT office, in the morning session. It lasted for 27 minutes. The panel consisted of 5 members. There were 4 ladies, 1 sir.

( Then I was mentioning about the various developments and said about railways in the middle). Then they asked me how have railways helped in the modernisation/development of the country? Then they asked what is your view about the english education? Tell something about Macaulay. How was gandhi's and rabindranath tagore's view of education different? What was gandhi's view about education.
10. Then the physics teacher started. She started asking about electricity (as I had said that I want to become an electrical engineer). She asked about fuses, and why we cannot repair a fused bulb. Functioning of a fuse.
11. Then she asked what figure was obtained if we join all the open ends of the four tables. (An elliptical shape). Then she asked what all objects are elliptical. Then she asked about kepler's laws.
12. The bio teacher started then. She asked me about nervous system and circulatory system. Is there any electrical circuit in our body? What are the electrical signals? How are the messages transported? What is synapse? Draw the structure of a neuron.

That's all I remember for now.
